Jeremy is the Principal (owner) of HSH Yacht Sales. He is an experienced ocean sailor having crossed the Atlantic twice (the first time in 1988, single-handed). He has cruised the European west coast, the Eastern Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. In 1991 he founded Blue Water Cruising and in 2003 the company joined with Higgins and Smythe Yachts to form HSH Yacht Sales. Jeremy has established himself as an experienced and knowledgeable writer and teacher. He has written for Sail Magazine, Latitudes and Attitudes Magazine and the Texas sailing magazine Telltales. His book Safety Preparations For Cruising is published by Sheridan House Inc.
His Rival 36 sailboat “Melos” is currently in North Carolina where he has spent the last two summers exploring the Pamlioco Sound area with his wife, Janet, who is also an avid an experienced sailor!

Daniel Collins

An ASA certified sailing and navigation instructor, Extra class amateur radio operator, and accomplished programmer, Daniel Collins enjoys tweaking marine electronics installations as much as he does helping people find their sailing passion through private coaching and group instruction.
In his other life, he holds a degree in electrical engineering with a focus on analog and digital signal processing. He specializes in Linux enterprise architecture and helping businesses benefit from open-source software. His clients include several Fortune 50 and equivalently sized global companies.He currently lives aboard his 36ft Allied ketch and is giving her an eco-friendly restoration in preparation for a singlehanded circumnavigation.

With GPS receivers now so widely available why do you need to know celestial navigation? For many the question is superfluous: it’s all part of being intune with the elements as sailing is also. But on a practical level, celestial is more necessary now than ever - what would you do if the Department of Defense decided to turn the system off while you were at sea?

If you have a boat with a diesel inboard but the whole thing confuses you then this class is a must! With clear classroom explanations of how your engine works, plenty of engine parts for you to examine and loads of time for you to spend actually working on our diesel engines!

Boat Electrics

This class will help you understand your boat electrics like never before. A realistic mix of classroom teaching and hands-on practice will give you the knowledge and experience needed to install equipment, trace faults in your wiring and much more. Topics include 12-volt circuits, shore-power circuits and engine electrics.
